New Board of Education Members

On April 2, 2019, Scott Jandrin and Jason Potts became the newest elected members of the Howard Suamico Board of Education.

The decision to run for a seat on the Board of Education reflects a commitment to public service and dedication to democracy. A choice to serve in this manner is particularly significant because locally elected officials are closer to the individuals they represent than other policymakers.  Public schools carry out one of society’s most important tasks - educating students to become productive, responsible, civic-minded adults who prosper and serve.

As a school board member, one must balance the interests and values of children, parents, teachers, administrators, taxpayers, business leaders, and retirees among others in our school district.  Performed with sincerity and thought, service on a school board is a vital public service.

The mission of the Howard-Suamico School District Board of Education is “to enact policies and allocate resources to develop all students’ full academic potential and to promote their social and emotional growth.”  Therefore, it is desirable that our board of education consists of members who:

    Are visionary and able to create alternate futures
    Are conceptual thinkers
    Grasp the big picture
    Are connected to District ownership
    Demonstrate moral courage
    Can work within a group setting
    Accept and use authority
    Can allow others to lead

The HSSD Board of Education appreciates outgoing school board members, Mark Ashley and Maria Lara’s dedicated service.   Our school district is truly a better place because of their investment of time and talents.

Bay Port Hockey Golf Outing

Monday, July 22 (11am-4pm) Annual Bay Port Hockey Golf Outing, Mid Vallee Golf Course, 3850 Mid Valley Drive, De Pere, WI  54115. Registration 10 am, 4 person scramble with shotgun start at 11am., Dinner at 5pm.  Golf registration due by July 12, 2019. Upcoming - ACT Aspire Assessment information

9th Grade April 24th & 25th
This is an important reminder that all 9th & 10th graders will be participating in the ACT Aspire assessment on the dates listed above.  This assessment is a state required online assessment and measures student progress in the areas of writing, reading, English, math and science.  To help prepare everyone for this very important assessment please note the following information:
  1. Only 9th & 10th grade students, on their assigned days, will be required to be present at school during testing times-they will report to school at regular starting time and have been assigned testing rooms.
  2.  Regular bus routes will be running as scheduled on assessment days for those students     who cannot secure another way to school these days.
  3. For those students not testing, but need to take the bus on test days, they will be in a supervised setting during the testing times.
  4. Classes will begin for all students at 11:23 on test days.
  5. Parents are encouraged to make every attempt to avoid scheduling appointments or have your 9th & 10th grader(s) miss any portion of the testing-students who miss any portion of the testing will be required to make up any missed testing time.

The Giving Tree is excited to announce that tickets are on sale now for the Scanlan Jewelers Necklace raffle.  

This dazzling 1 carat total weight champagne diamond necklace is set in white gold. Valued at $2000, tickets are available for $10 each and available at both Scanlan Jewelers and Thornberry Cottage. 

Drawing to be held at the Taste of the Villages and Auction on April 25 at 8:45pm at 1951 West/Rock Garden Banquet Conference Center. Need not be present to win. 

All money raised goes directly to providing support and supplementing basic needs of families in the Howard-Suamico School District to enhance students’ educational journeys towards self-sufficiency.
